BA (Hons) Digital Television Production

Students will build basic knowledge in traditional methods of broadcasting.

Alongside this, they will learn about the television industry and develop an awareness of multi-platform delivery and how to develop viable TV format ideas.

They will cover studio and location production techniques in a range of genres including drama and factual programming.

Students will apply the production skills and techniques gained in the first year and experiment creatively on increasingly challenging projects.

They will develop audience-led approaches to documentary, entertainment, live and interactive programmes. At the same time, they will continue to develop their own ideas and entrepreneurial skills.

The elective units include options to work on the Royal Shakespeare Company Live Broadcasts or taking on a management or production role in our new student-led TV channel RaveTV.

Students can also select a specialist post-production unit or a choice of other electives within the Media School.

In the final level, academic and industry research forms the core of your studies with the dissertation unit.

The professional initiatives unit involves individual research into new trends and emerging technologies such as Augmented Reality and 360degree video.

In creative futures Students will work in a group to realise a project using one of the technologies researched in the first term.

Finally, the portfolio unit allows students to build a portfolio of self-initiated work and experiment with ideas and new media solutions that prepare them for professional practice.

• Professional Life Practice: "Situating your Practice".

At Ravensbourne we accept a wide range of qualifications for entry onto our courses, whilst also considering the context in which they were achieved. For this course, we would usually require a GCSE Grade 4 or above in English in addition to any of the below;

• Three A Levels at grade CCC or above
• BTEC Extended Diploma at grade MMM
• UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma
• T Level (pass or above)
• Access to Higher Education Diploma
• International Baccalaureate at grade 24 or above
• Other/Mixed qualifications equivalent to 96 UCAS Tariff points

Please note that a portfolio is not usually a requirement for this course. However, we may still ask you for one if you have not met the entry requirements for the course or if your educational background is in a very different subject.

If we ask you to submit a portfolio, you will need to provide the following :

• An engaging showreel with a duration of 2-4 minutes that contains your skills and work. Please only include your best work
• If you have any materials such as mood boards, drawings or scripts that you made, please bring these along if you want to display them
• If you are particularly interested in TV sound bring along some audio work
• Photographs are acceptable if you want to display your lighting work or skills in framing and composition
• At interview, you will be asked what you did specifically on the content that you show
• It is beneficial if you show a passion for the television industry and can exhibit material that has been made by you outside of what is required for your formal studies
