The prototyping lab is where to come if you want to make physical objects. We have two prototyping labs which provide the equipment and knowledge to help you realise concepts and create final models and garments.
A vast array of 3D scanners and digitizers bring real-world objects into the digital world. We have a whole host of other technology too, such as laser cutters, embroiders, 3D printers and a Risograph printer, to help you to create an output for your ideas.
We also have a range of equipment available ranging from industrial sewing machines to sanders and saws.

If it were completely up to me, I would have spent all my time in the prototyping rooms. There you have access to an array of fabric printing facilities as well as laser cutting and 3D printing. I loved experimenting with these different design mediums and I would encourage everyone to do this as much as you can. ”

Health and safety induction
We welcome all students from every course, but we first ask you to take a health and safety induction and complete an online test. This is to ensure you work safely and understand the equipment that we have to offer. More information about our inductions can be found here.
Our technical team
The prototyping rooms are staffed by our expert technical tutors who can advise on the safe use of all our equipment. We’re also available for advice on design issues, technical knowledge and software troubleshooting.
