Ravensbourne and DAGILE launch free careers event series

DAGILE, a project partnered between Ravensbourne and London South Bank University, is hosting a free careers development talk revealing the lesser known routes and requirements for landing a role in web development. The event will be held in Ravensbourne’s Institute for Creativity and Technology building on Wednesday 13 October from 6.00pm to 7.00pm.

The ‘How to Start a Career in Web Development’ talk will be delivered by Amin Rahman, a sessional lecturer at Ravensbourne. It is the first in the ‘Breakthrough Series’ of in-person training events, run by DAGILE and Peabody Housing Association.

DAGILE is a project that aims to upskill Londoners with free training for digital and professional skills. It is run in partnership with Ravensbourne University London and London Southbank University.

The first event, focused on web development, is designed to upskill attendees to help them enter – or change career paths into – the tech industry. It will be hosted in our new Institute for Creativity and Technology building. We are very excited to welcome guests back on campus for its first in-person event. Free pizza and drinks will be provided for all attendees!

It will cover creating and maintaining a website; learning from the data a website generates; collaborating with colleagues on business objectives; and following the latest practices and regulations in the tech scene.

The speaker, Amin, has worked for over a decade in organisations ranging from market-entry start-ups to established or pivoting global corporations. After a varied career in both the creative and technology sectors, he is well-placed to offer valuable insight into the business ethos of both.

Amin has also cultivated a thorough understanding of the many new routes into these career paths that are emerging day-by-day.

In addition, the talk will cover a brief history of the Internet and explain the different roles and responsibilities involved in making it work, explaining why companies place value in specific roles.

It will also break down technical topics and commonly cited terms such as WordPress or HTML and presents them as transferable skills, so that students can recognise how easy it is to get started on a career in web development.

The Breakthrough Series will offer training in areas such as digital marketing, UI/UX design, leadership management, programming and web development. These sessions are completely free, taught by university academics, available online 24/7 and grant accredited qualifications.
