Ravensbourne students triumph at the D&AD New Blood Awards 2021
Four Ravensbourne students have been celebrated at the D&AD New Blood Awards. The global competition attracts over 5000 entries from over 37 countries each year, celebrating the very best creative excellence in Design and Advertising. The virtual awards ceremony takes place on Thursday 8 July 2021.
Our winning students are from both BA (Hons) Advertising and Brand Design and BA (Hons) User-Experience and User-Interface Design (UX/UI Design) courses. The prestigious D&AD New Blood Awards are incredibly competitive and give a good indication of the creatives to watch in the future. Real briefs are set by real clients, with students judged by a panel of notable industry experts.
Olly Meredith and Peter Ming-Hong Li were both winners from our UX/UI Design course. The Ravensbourne UX/UI Design course was introduced three years ago, with Olly and Peter part of the first graduating year. They were celebrated for their project titled, ‘BBC Evoke’, which saw them design a platform that seamlessly connects the real world with BBC Archives. Content is curated for specific moments and situations using real time video input, images and sound. As the user walks around the real world, they’re recommended BBC content that relates to their current environment.
David Hunter, Course leader of UX/UI Design, commented: “This is an outstanding project from Olly and Peter, rightly rewarded, and a testament to the hard work from our students and tutors over the last three years of this new course to produce award-winning work with our first graduating cohort."
Ester Wikström and Mica Helger are Advertising and Brand Design students whose designs impressed the judges. Their project titled, ‘For the procrastinators’ saw them design a campaign for watch brand, Fossil. The campaign celebrates procrastination, ‘to empower people to take their time guiltlessly’. Ester & Micas ingeniously redesigned the watch face to represent how ‘we can’t change time, but we can change the perception of it’.
They highlighted iconic artists who famously gave their creativity room to breathe without a tight deadline. Ester and Mica are from the first cohort of students to come through our partnership with Bergh's School of Communication in Stockholm.
