Ravensbourne returns to London Fashion Week

Ravensbourne made its hotly anticipated return to London Fashion Week after impressing organisers last year, when it was the only university approved by the British Council to show as an official designer.

The event took place on Saturday 11 June at the Institute of Contemporary Arts close to Trafalgar Square, where 15 Ravensbourne BA (Hons) Fashion students unveiled their final collections.

After battling with lockdowns, remote working and limited access to campus during the first two years of their study, the students demonstrated their resilience and aptitude as they wowed onlookers at the show.

The students made their career debuts in front of some of fashion’s greats, with an audience made up of industry giants and media powerhouses.

The 15 students showcasing work at the event overcame stiff competition from fellow course mates and went through an intensive selection process to claim their place at the event.

Each student presented three looks from their final collection to a panel of judges. Mimicking an official catwalk selection process, they explained their concepts and fielded questions from the panel to be awarded a place at the renowned event.

Representatives from a huge range of prestigious press outlets and distinguished fashion brands signed up to attend the event. These included Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council, Bruce Pask, Mens Fashion Director of Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, Maurice Mullen, Head of Fashion and Luxury ES Magazine, Angel Nemov, Content Editor at The Perfect Magazine, CQ Italy, Browns, SHOWStudio, 1Granary and WWD. 

Ravensbourne Fashion Programme Director Gurmit Matharu said: “It is truly impressive that our students had the opportunity to showcase their personal vision on an international platform such as London Fashion Week. 

"They have all shown determination in the face of adversity during the last two years, and these collections really are a testament to both their enormous talent and drive to succeed. I have no doubt that they will go far and make their unique mark."

Chloe Culpin, Show Director for the event and Commercial Projects Manager at CreativeLab, said: “It was such a pleasure to be able to bring such an amazing team together, utilising my contacts and ten years of fashion industry experience. The fashion students set the bar so high and really excelled, pushing themselves in the past few weeks and clear from such high praise from press and industry attending. 

"Collaborating and working alongside industry professionals gave them such valuable insight and a true industry experience that they wouldn’t get anywhere else."
