Ravensbourne appoints Andrew Summers CMG as Chair of the Board of Governors

Ravensbourne University London has confirmed the appointment of Andrew Summers CMG as their new chair of the Board of Governors. 

Their current chair, Jonathan Drori CBE will hand over to Andrew on Tuesday 1 October having completed his six-year term, guiding the institution through significant change including their receipt of Taught Degree Awarding Powers and university title. 

Andrew will join Ravensbourne from King’s College London, where he was a deputy chair and held the position of chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee. He is also currently chairman at Design Partners. Andrew has extensive experience at board level roles across higher education and the creative industries. Previously, he was chief executive of the Design Council and has been a board member of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education and of British Trade International. 

Andrew holds a master’s degree from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge and an honorary doctorate from the University of Westminster. He was awarded the order of chivalry of St Michael and St George (CMG) for his contribution to international business and design.

Jonathan said, “Andrew and I have already had several worthwhile and enjoyable conversations. I have been struck by his understanding of higher education, insightful questioning and business-like approach, and I already like and respect him. I thank the staff and students at Ravensbourne for making Ravensbourne such an exciting, collegiate place to be over my two terms as chair. How time has flown!”

Andy Cook, Acting Vice Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer added, “Ravensbourne owes a huge debt of gratitude to Jon Drori for his many years of service and commitment to making the university the vibrant and exciting place it is. He has guided the institution through a number of crucial changes and we would like to thank him for his commitment to Ravensbourne. Jon will hand over to Andrew on Tuesday 1 October, who I am delighted to welcome to the institution. His significant experience across higher education and the creative industries made him the ideal candidate to steer Ravensbourne through this important period of change.” 

Commenting, Andrew said, “More than ever we need creative leaders who can harness design and media to improve our prosperity and quality of life. I am very much looking forward to my involvement with Ravensbourne in nurturing the creative leaders of the future.”
