Ravensbourne hosts Degree Showcase Award Ceremony 2023

Publication date:On Thursday 15 June, we were thrilled to host the Degree Showcase Award Ceremony 2023, to celebrate the exceptional work of our final-year students.
Year after year, our students produce the highest calibre of work and push the limits of creativity.
Our students are both incredibly talented and hardworking and highly astute in engaging with society's critical issues, such as ethics and sustainability.
They possess everything they need to become highly sought after graduates and purposeful members of society. We are proud of every single one of them.

Celebrating our 2023 cohort
During the glittery awards evening, students’ individual efforts were celebrated in awards that spanned four categories:
- Head of Department Awards
- Dean Awards
- Vice Chancellor Awards
- Achievement in Industry Awards
Deputy Vice Chancellor, Simon Robertshaw took to the stage to kick-off the evening’s proceedings and commented: “This year’s cohort have been through a great deal since the start of their course and throughout the past two years.
“What emerged through this period, was the astounding courage, dedication, and perseverance of both our staff and students who continued to produce fantastic, award-winning, industry standard work – a true reflection of what makes Ravensbourne unique.”

Head of Department Awards
The first set of awards to be presented were the Head of Department Awards, which recognised excellence across the different disciplines across the university.
The categories and winners were:
- Excellence in Architecture: BA (Hons) Architecture student Kristiāna Genca.
- Excellence in Business & Computing: Vincenzo Somma from the BA (Hons) Cyber Security course.
- The Excellence in Design: Prabhnoor Singh from the BA (Hons) Product Design course.
- The Excellence in Fashion: Hai Li Sung from the BA (Hons) Fashion course.
- Excellence in Media and Film: Ruby Cameron from the BA (Hons) Editing and Post Production course.
- Excellence in Media Lab: Joe Healey from the BA (Hons) Animation course.
- Excellence in Further Education: Kit Walters from the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design.

To be nominated for this award is a great honour. Studying at Ravensbourne for my foundation year has helped me to further my craft at both a base and industry level, making sure that I strive for excellence in every piece of work”
The Dean’s Awards
The second part of the ceremony celebrated the Dean’s Awards, and were awarded to students who had made outstanding academic progress during their time at Ravensbourne.
The categories and winners were:
- Dean’s Award for Architecture: Hannah Turner from the BA (Hons) Interior Design Environment Architectures course.
- Dean’s Award for Business and Computing: Francesca Menichetti from the BSc (Hons) Digital Marketing course.
- Dean’s Award for Design: Joseph Ariyibi from the BA (Hons) Advertising and Brand Design course.
- Dean’s Award for Fashion: Beth Crowley from the Fashion Buying and Brand Management course.
- Dean’s Award for Media: Mary Ashokeji from the BA (Hons) Digital Photography course.
- Dean’s Award for Media and Film: Martynas Cekanavicius from the BA (Hons) Music and Sound Design course.
- Dean’s Award for Foundation: Alice Partington from the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design.

Being nominated for this prestigious award holds a special significance to me. It's a humbling experience that brings a surge of joy and gratitude. It's a sweet validation that all the blood, sweat, and tears I've poured into my work hasn't gone unnoticed.”
Vice Chancellor Awards
The third part of the evening celebrated the Vice Chancellor Awards and was awarded by Ravensbourne’s Vice Chancellor, Andy Cook.
The categories and winners were:
- Vice Chancellor Award for Creativity: Farhad Umar from the BA (Hons) Fashion course.
- Vice Chancellor Award for Sustainability: Matei Tolescu from the BA (Hons) Architecture course.
- Vice Chancellor Award for Inclusion: Mariyke Beccaro from the BA (Hons) Fashion Buying and Brand Management course.
Vice Chancellor Award for Creativity: Farhad Umar
Being nominated for this award is a token of appreciation which allows me to keep on going and believe in my vision.”
Achievement in Industry
The final award of the evening was for Achievement in Industry and was awarded to two winners:
- Jack Philips from the BSc (Hons) Digital Television Technology course
- Lia Saunders from the BA (Hons) Digital Television Production course
This dynamic duo has run the student society Creative Capital with energy and imagination.
Their work has greatly increased the standing of the University in the TV and production industry and his year they brought the NASTAs to Ravensbourne.

Ravensbourne has helped me build my practice, confidence and skills which as allowed me to start a career in the industry during my studies as well as within the university with the development of Creative Capital. ”

Chair of Board of Governors, Andrew Summers closed the ceremony with a few heartfelt words: “I want to congratulate all our winners, and to all our graduating students.
"I also want to congratulate all those who have supported them, especially since the last three years have sometimes not been ideal. So here is special recognition to the staff who have nurtured these outstanding students, the families, friends and supporters who have helped them get to where they are today.”
