Kathryn Martin BA(Hons) MA AFHEA
Biography
Kathryn Martin is a multi-award winning illustrator, writer and peer reviewed researcher.
Since graduating with MA Visual Communication from the Royal College of Art in 2015, Kathryn’s work in comics has been recognised internationally, with accolades including winning the World Illustration Awards Professional Research Category in 2019. Her work has also been exhibited internationally across Europe and Asia, in venues such as Somerset House, Bethlem Museum of the Mind and the Taichung 1916 Cultural & Creative Workshop (Taiwan).
In 2020 Kathryn’s academic article The Spirit of Vaslav Nijinsky was published in the peer reviewed Journal of Illustration. Kathryn has also contributed as a panel speaker to international academic conferences including the International Illustration Research Symposium and the Conference of the Asian Shakespeare Association. In 2023 she contributed to the peer review of Illustrated and Written By, an exhibition hosted by the International Association of Illustration Academics.
Kathryn has also contributed to the Ravensbourne Knowledge Exchange programme, writing and illustrating Petrykivka Zine (launching autumn 2023), a publication showcasing the Ukrainian folk art tradition, with all sales raising money for the charity British-Ukrainian Aid.
Kathryn has taught BA Illustration since 2017. Before joining the team at Ravensbourne University London, Kathryn taught at the University of Worcester and University for the Creative Arts.
