Dan Flanders

In 2016, Dan and a friend won a joint contract and formed Crosscut Media. They have been running the business ever since and produce high quality content for organisations across Europe. Since graduating he has also produced live streams for the likes of Google and Social Media Week London.

Dan’s business comprises a core team of three and a large network of freelancers. As well as coming up with concepts for shooting and editing, Dan’s days are filled with meeting new and existing clients and researching new technologies to stay at the forefront of innovation.

For Dan, it was Ravensbourne’s fantastic facilities that caught his attention. With a reputation for producing industry-ready graduates and a course specialising in postproduction, it was an obvious choice.

During his time at Ravensbourne Dan had the chance to collaborate and learn from students from different disciplines. He worked on a number of different productions and this gave him strong foundational knowledge in all aspects of production. Studying so close to the city opened up brilliant opportunities for work experience and later employment.

A highlight of Dan’s time at Ravensbourne was the opportunity to work in the Ravensbourne Degree Show. The show was scheduled to take place inside the 02 Arena, but at the last minute it had to be relocated to take place inside the then Chislehurst Campus. Commenting on this experience he said, ‘The dedication of everyone was incredible and it was amazing to feel part of something so big. Everyone pulled together to make the show a big success and it will always be one of my fondest memories, despite the lack of sleep at the time”.

Ravensbourne rekindled Dan’s interest in production, as well as igniting his passion for new and emerging techniques, such as live streaming.

Dan’s advice to new students is to make the most of absolutely everything that Ravensbourne has to offer. Commenting on this, he said. “its not just about the course, work with others, use equipment that other people may never have the opportunity to use and go out and get experience. A degree is a degree, but it is the experience that you’ll gain along the way that will really set you apart”.
