Celebrating Ravensbourne's Covid Heroes
Ravensbourne's Covid Heroes is a collection of messages, shared experiences and stories that will inspire pride in our community.
The coronavirus pandemic has caused endless amounts of uncertainty and upheaval to our lives. But throughout this extremely challenging time, Ravensbourne staff have been working tirelessly to keep things running.
We’re so proud to say that the Ravensbourne community has rallied together to support one another and we would like to say a massive thank you - we really couldn’t have done it without you!
Message from Andy Cook
Thank you to all of the staff members who have been on the front line during this pandemic. Your attendance in the building has meant that we can keep vital services open and ensure students can access the facilities they need to thrive. We really appreciate your hard work.”
Ravensbourne's Covid Heroes
What our community has been doing:
- We’ve supplied personal protective equipment (PPE) to the NHS.
- During lockdown, essential staff stayed on campus to support students in accommodation.
- Essential building staff have transformed our building for socially distanced learning and continue to keep us safe while we are on campus.
- Our academic staff have shown patience and resilience as we have switched to our hybrid learning model. They continue to offer students an exceptional level of teaching.
- With social distancing affecting many face-to-face services, our Student Services have moved online and continue to offer invaluable help and guidance to students during this time.
- Our facilities and library services have remained available, with staff working tirelessly to ensure equipment is safe to use.

Overall, I think that these exceptional times, despite the difficulties we've seen for many students and their families, have taught us a great deal about how we can work better and reach more students for support than we ever thought possible. More than anything, we're grateful the team has been able to help lift some of the burden students have found themselves with.”

I'd nominate my entire team for all the hard work they've put in since we returned to the building in July; they've been coordinating collections and returns with students and staff ensuring equipment is delivered on time....Working with couriers and academics to get equipment to offsite locations. Also, their days are now primarily filled with sanitising equipment to ensure it is safe for the next person to use, a pretty thankless but necessary task that they've met head on!”

The Prototyping Department have been very busy creating and delivering some of the only face to face sessions that students come in to the building to attend. For all their hard work, I really would nominate all of them; I am dead proud! For their immediate response during the initial lockdown to make PPE and scrubs and supporting London hospitals. Since then, there has been a concerted effort to redevelop nearly all of our teaching materials and working methods to focus the work online. They've never missed a session in the building and supported students throughout in physical prototype making, garment construction, software tuition and with general trouble shooting. ”
