Take a break with Benjamin Peters
Join us as we sit down with members of the Ravensbourne community to hear about what they're up to, what they enjoy doing in their free time, and - most importantly - what is their favourite break-time snack?
Hi! What is your name and what did you study at Ravensbourne?
“My name in Benjamin Peters, I studied Foundation Diploma in Media Production, and then BA (Hons) Digital Photography. I graduated in 2020.”
It’s time for a coffee break! What’s your go-to drink or snack?
“Coke Zero, maybe with a muffin or a cookie. I’m not a coffee fan!”
How did you get to where you are now?
"After studying, I jumped straight into the industry after being offered a job share at Focus Images and MB Media, two sports photography agencies.
“Two years after graduating, Focus Images were offered the commission of being Charlton Athletic Football Club’s official Club Photographer, partially because of my investment with the club and my history with them (I’m a huge fan)."
What exciting projects are you currently working on?
“Being the Charlton Club photographer is my main project, but I am the picture editor and assistant for Soccer Aid on their launch shoots (already in progress).
“I have also worked quite a bit with Accumulate – a creative art college for students who were previously homeless – photographing their workshops and doing a bit of tutoring. This is probably the most fulfilling project I’ve done as I feel like I’m making a real impact.”
What do you do with your time outside of work?
“Mostly long walks through Greenwich to unwind. I like to get out in the fresh air and clear the mind. I live locally but I still find something new every single time I head out for a walk.
“Aside from that, I enjoy meeting up with my friends, socialising, catching up on the good times, and seeing what we’re all up to post graduation.”
What advice would you give to someone currently studying your course?
“Make the most of the facilities and equipment here. Make the most of the studio spaces, it’s industry-standard stuff! I spent my final term of studies in lockdown and lost access to the facilities overnight – you don’t fully appreciate something until it’s gone! It’s expensive equipment and will equip you with so many skills and so much confidence.
“Pursue what you’re really passionate about, don’t give up… in all creative projects, passion really shows in the work.”
Quickfire!
