Illustrated Book Cover Competition Winners Awarded

Publication date:As part of their final year of study, BA (Hons) Illustration for Communication undergraduates were assigned a design brief to create a book cover for one of their learning modules.
Senior lecturer Zara Wood invited in creative industry experts, designer Mark Swan of Kid-ethic studio and illustrator Bill Bragg, as guest speakers to inspire the students to bring their ideas to life.
These prolific image creators within the film and publishing arenas generously shared their insights and ways of working with the illustration cohort.
Renowned publishing creative director Donna Payne then judged the students' book cover submissions.
Commenting on the submissions, she said: "It was an absolute pleasure to review the students work. The standard was extraordinary and choosing just three was genuinely hard!"
The high calibre of work meant that a total of eight book designs were selected – four commendations and four winning submissions.
The students were awarded various prizes, including book vouchers and beautifully screen-printed sketchbooks from the design-led publishers and online bookshop Counter Print, along with studio plants for the soon-to-be graduate illustrators.
