Welcome information

In preparation for your first semester the work begins now!  Start to engage with your subject, I recommend you inform yourself of the latest developments happening within the fashion industry and current contemporary fashion collections.  Try to go to as many exhibitions as possible and start keeping a personal sketchbook, collecting and documenting anything you've seen, liked or disliked.

Remember, VOGUE is not the only fashion magazine out there, cast your eyes over ID, Dazed and Confused, Another Magazine, POP, Wonderland, System, The Perfect Magazine and there are many more of this ilk! 

Course equipment 

You will benefit from having the following equipment to support your studies. If you have any questions, please speak to your course team during Welcome Week. You will not need to bring this equipment to Welcome Week. 

You will need essential pattern cutting equipment for the start of semester one. We have been working closely with a reputable local supplier ‘FCE London’ for many years, they have put together a Bronze and Gold essential equipment packs, prices are very competitive compared with other suppliers and the equipment has been tried and tested by the tutors. You may already have some equipment and therefore may not require a complete pack, you can also buy single items, as well as the special Ravensbourne Sewing Room pack (please note, the sewing room pack is included within the Bronze and Gold pack).  

In addition to the equipment pack, you may want to buy a mini mannequin (great to have when developing 3D shapes), but this is not essential. I have also included a list of recommended sewing machines to buy or hire, again this is not essential but a very useful resource to have at your disposal.

The pre-order and guaranteed delivery cut-off date is Friday 22 September. All orders received by this date will be delivered to the university and available for collection from Monday 25 September.

Your course welcome week activities will be taking place on the following dates. This is a really important time for you to meet fellow students, your course team and become part of the Ravensbourne community. These sessions will cover key information about your course and everything you need to set you up for your studies.

Students’ Union Welcome Festival

International Welcome Week runs from Tuesday 12 September - Friday 15 September. If you’re an international student, it is important that you attend in this week to complete your enrolment, get all the information you need to best prepare your for studying in the UK and meet fellow international students on your course.

Your teaching starts in the week commencing Monday 25 September. In semester one you will have three teaching sessions each week between 9.00am – 6.00pm, Monday – Friday.

Due to the size and set up of your course it is not possible to share your timetable information prior to your enrolment. Once you have completed enrolment you can find out how to check your timetable here  

If you have any questions ahead of joining us, our online drop-in sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, 1.00pm - 2.00pm UK Time, starting Friday 11 August through to Friday 30 September 2023.
