Welcome information

For our Welcome Week task please bring in a reference photograph on your phone or laptop that we will try and help you recreate in the studio – make sure this is a studio image that includes a model.

We will be discussing the reading lists for the year during Welcome Week, but if you wanted to starting looking at books around projects and ideas then I would suggest you look at:

Photography (portfolio) Second Edition, Ingledew J, 2103, Lawrence King, London

In addition a good book that you might find useful as you prepare for university is: 

The Arts Good Study Guide, Chambers. E,  Northedge A,  2008, Open University Press, Milton Keynes

Course equipment 

You will benefit from having the following equipment to support your studies. If you have any questions, please speak to your course team during Welcome Week. You do not need to bring this equipment to welcome week unless specified.

• A DSLR or Mirrorless camera that can save a RAW file and has interchangeable lenses
• An external hard drive to save and back up large files (this can be purchased in the first few weeks of the course)
• Note taking is important – you might use your laptop or tablet, but you might want to bring a good notebook and pen if this is more comfortable and easier for you
• We use a system called Aula for communication – it works well on your laptop but we also like having it on your smartphone as well so bring your phone and/or tablet with you during Welcome Week.

Your course welcome week activities will be taking place on the following dates. This is a really important time for you to meet fellow students, your course team and become part of the Ravensbourne community. These sessions will cover key information about your course and everything you need to set you up for your studies.  

Monday 18 September, 9.30am - 5.00pm, room 103

Wednesday 20 September, 9.30am - 5.00pm, room 103

Students’ Union Welcome Festival

International Welcome Week runs from Tuesday 12 September - Friday 15 September. If you’re an international student, it is important that you attend in this week to complete your enrolment, get all the information you need to best prepare your for studying in the UK and meet fellow international students on your course. 

Tuesday 12 September: 11.00am - 12.00pm - In-Person Enrolment

Wednesday 13 September: 9.30am - 4.30pm - International Induction

Your teaching starts in the week commencing Monday 25 September. In semester one you will have three teaching sessions each week as follows: 

Monday, 9.00am - 1.00pm, room 103

Monday, 2.00pm - 6.00pm, room 103

Tuesday, 9.00am - 1.00pm, room 103

Occasionally your timetable might get updated due to a room or other change.

If you have any questions ahead of joining us, our online drop-in sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, 1.00pm - 2.00pm UK Time, starting Friday 11 August through to Friday 30 September 2023.
