Who is it for?
As post supervisors often come from a wide variety of backgrounds, there can often be gaps in your baseline knowledge — from initial training to technical developments.
This course is designed to address these gaps and provide critical access to knowledge that can make a difference in your ability to plan workflows, budget and schedule. It can also help to improve day-to-day operations and relationships with the creatives and technical personnel in the cutting room.
This course has been developed in conjunction with Post Super, a resource for post supervisors and Ravensbourne University London.
This training is supported by ScreenSkills using National Lottery funds awarded by the British Film Institute (BFI) as part of the Future Film Skills programme.
Course outline
The full course is split into three modules to allow different PPCs & PPSs to enter at the correct level for them.
Entrants will be asked to complete a questionnaire upfront to help determine your suitability for the course and filter you into the correct level. You will then have the option to complete either one or two modules, depending on demand.
- Level one: 25 and 28 January 2021. This module will touch on cutting room etiquette and explain the breakdown of roles/hierarchy within the sound and picture departments, plus we will look at how the post-production team interacts with them.
- Level two: 8 and 11 February 2021. In this module we build on level one and start to introduce picture standards - SDR, HDR, Dolby Vision and then Sound Standards - 5.1, Atmos, stereo.
- Level three: 22 and 25 February 2021. Again, elaborating on level one and two, we move everything up to an advanced level and teach how to establish a technical workflow with a DIT/DOP/Sound/Dallies company, look at how to anticipate picture and sound problems using workflow roundtrip testing, this includes a VFX workflow.
There are 2x 15-minute tests after each of the live lectures. If you pass both the tests, you will be able to download a certificate as evidence of your learning.
