Concept and creative process
A one-off programme from the Music & Arts Department celebrating 200 years of Mozart’s music since his death. This was a very low budget commission, so it was necessary to be resourceful and creative to make a title sequence that was beautiful and compelling, yet nevertheless cheap to produce. The entire sequence was created using the Quantel Paintbox with some editing on a Quantel Harry. Using backgrounds created in blue, various musical instruments were used in subtle tones mixed with animated lines of musical notes. From a French horn to a violin and harpsichord, from a tape-recording deck to a CD, simple images represented how Mozart’s music had been heard over the previous two centuries. The typography of the final programme title mirrors the musical sheet notation, which had been a constant unifying compositional element throughout the whole sequence.
