Concept and creative process
‘Eerie Warm' version 1 was one of a number of idents produced for the 1993 BBC2 Spring campaign. The setting for the first alternative version of this sting is the same as for ‘Eerie Cold’ with the '2' located in an empty room, but this time illuminated by a shaft of warm light. As the camera crabs around the '2' and cranes up it reveals a door open and ajar, and in the '2''s reflective surface we see its own shadow cast upon the floor by the warm light from the door and some debris, the result of its activity in its previous incarnation as a wood plane in ‘Edge’. The '2' also reflects the warm external light back onto the floor in front of it, the curve of its form breaking the straight edge of the shadow cast by the open door, a subtle effect created in post-production. As the camera comes to rest the door closes and the '2' in the room is plunged into darkness. All of this brief action is admirably enhanced by the music and effects which contribute greatly to the creation of a more upbeat feel for the sequence.
