Take a break with Kristie Knapp
Join us as we sit down with members of the Ravensbourne community to hear about what they're up to, what they enjoy doing in their free time, and - most importantly - what is their favourite break-time snack?
Hi there! What is your name and role at Ravensbourne?
“Hi, I’m Kristie and I am the Senior Event Manger at Ravensbourne University London. I look after graduation and student recruitment events such as open days, offer holder days, building tours, and webinars.”
It’s time for a coffee break! What’s your go-to drink or snack?
“A latte is my go-to. I like to mix it up with different milks. It might be classic dairy milk one day, oat the next, and almond another.”
What’s the best part of your role?
“It's always rewarding to see the culmination of months of planning wrapped up into one event. Events provide the platform for engagement and are a crucial part of university life. Whether is it inspiring a student to pursue a creative career, or celebrating the end of an era at graduation, witnessing those moments and the memories being created is why I enjoy my job.”
What does a typical day in the office look like for you?
“No two days are the same in the events team. One day I could be running around the building setting up for an event, another day I could be in planning meetings collaborating with other departments.”
What is something that people may not know about you?
“As a keen dancer, I have performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Her Majesty’s Theatre, and Disneyland Paris.”
What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?
“Don’t doubt your capabilities. If someone has tasked you with something you haven’t done before, use it as an opportunity to learn. They wouldn’t have asked you to do it if they didn’t think you’d be able to do it. Take it is a compliment and embrace the challenge.”
Quickfire questions!
A book I recently loved is… the ‘Pinch of Nom’ cookbook. Before lockdown I would buy sauces in a jar, but now I make everything from scratch having learnt how easy it is.
My current favourite accessory is… the bum bag! I use it as my events toolkit. I keep all sorts in there, such as my phone, scissors, pens, blue tac. Even a cheeky snack.
My favourite thing to do in London is… activity bars. Table tennis, shuffleboard, darts, mini golf, I have tried them all.
My guilty pleasure is… watching ‘Escape to the Chateau’ or ‘Cruising with Jane McDonald’.
